31 of the best healthy seasonal recipes to make this March! We are leaning into fun citrus recipes, introducing lighter salads, a few fun green-inspired recipes to celebrate St. Patrick's Day!
March is the month of all “promise and no delivery”. Days are longer, there is the promise of more sunshine, but it is still cold and icy, and windy and…well…it is still winter.
But with March we know that we are almost there, almost out of the grey and cold, we can begin to prepare, there are tasks to start in the garden, there is spring business to attend to and with patience, goodness awaits.
Although the earth isn't quite ready to bring us an abundance of fresh produce, we still have time to savor our favorite warming foods, root veggies, and hearty greens.
In March I like to lean heavily into healthy nourishing recipes and a few fun treats to celebrate St. Patricks Day!
WHAT'S IN SEASON IN MARCH?
This will depend on the region of the world that you live in, naturally. Here in the northeast, we are still working through our winter larder.
Root vegetables and heartier greens will support us through this month, and I am forever grateful for the bright beautiful citrus, that comes to us from the south and the west coast, to brighten up my meals in the coming days.
Fill your market bags with these other seasonal goodies:
- Beets
- Cabbage
- Carrots
- Kale
- Spinach
- Sweet Potatoes
- Cauliflower
- Brussels sprouts
- Bok Choy
- Apples
- Pears
- Citrus Fruits; tangerines, grapefruit, oranges, and Meyer lemons

Hi Abra. Do you happen to have a Hungarian sun pickle recipe with sourdough bread on top? My uncle gave me a recipe from memory but I cant seem to find it. Thank you much!! Diana

Hi Diana, I don’t but I am so intrigued. My uncles’ family made a family cookbook of all of his Hungarian recipes, I am going to check to see if there is a sun pickle recipe in there, I will report back 🙂
