Tips for a Healthier Super Bowl Party
Super Bowl Sunday – I couldn't tell you who's playing, but I could wax poetic on yummy snack-y game day food until next year's game! Yes, I like to throw in a little healthy twist to my game day treats, but not sooooo healthy that you'll get thrown out of the party (trust me, I've tested this theory)
I'm talking about a little elevation in your party food things like:
- Offer plenty of fresh, colorful options like veggie platters, you can still have nachos, but maybe have some veggies too!
- Bring in Mediterranean flavors to help balance out the typical heavier fare (I am all about culinary balance as much as health and quite honestly wings and pizza – they don't work together!)
- Incorporate a variety of protein options
- Think about your guests. While it’s not necessary to provide a hundred different dietary options, it’s worth making sure there are a few choices that cater to various needs. Having spent the better part of the last three years gluten-free, I’ve been shocked by how often I’ve attended parties where there wasn’t a single thing I could eat. As someone who has hosted dozens of gatherings, I’ve always made it a point to consider my guests and ensure there are options for everyone to enjoy. A little thoughtfulness goes a long way in making everyone feel welcome.
Ok let's get to it!
WINNING FINGER FOODS – MY FAVORITE PART!
Y'all know I’m not the biggest sports fan, but put a stunning charcuterie board in front of me, and I’m there! Appetizers are where the fun’s at, and they don’t have to come from a bag or box. Think vibrant colors, a variety of flavors, and a few fresh veggies to keep things balanced. And yes, wings and nachos are always welcome!
MEATBALLS – THE MVP OF GAME DAY SNACKS
Meatballs are versatile, bite-sized, and easy to serve—perfect for feeding a hungry crowd. If you are gunning to win best Superbowl party may I suggest a meatball bar? Serve them with toothpicks for easy grabbing, or pair them with slider buns for a fun DIY mini sandwich station.
HEARTY MAINS TO FUEL THE GAME
Is it just me, or is the Superbowl basically the national day of chili? Host a chili potluck, or better yet, turn it into a chili cook-off with winners, prizes, and all the fun that comes with a little friendly competition. Have your guests bring their best chili creations, and let the tasting and judging begin! Now, I’m going to humble brag for a moment—if you want to secure that cook-off win, I highly recommend making one of my chili recipes. True story: readers across the country have shared how my chili recipes helped them bring home the gold (or, more accurately, a delightfully silly trophy). Honestly, helping you win chili cook-offs might just be my life’s purpose.
But hey, if chili isn’t your thing, you’ve got to try my Gumbo recipe. Technically, it’s my husband’s masterpiece, and let me tell you, it’s legendary. We’ve served it to hundreds of people over the years, and it’s always a massive crowd-pleaser.
THE ONLY BEVERAGE I REQUIRE
Hand me a loaded Bloody Mary (virgin please) and I am happy for the entire day. There is only one recipe you need. Turn it into a Bloody Mary bar and your guests will love you forever!
