I'm about to give you the lowdown on snack foods, including a great recipe for pumpkin pie dip.
Ok, my snack-obsessed friends, this one is for you. I know you. I know you well.
You never leave the grocery store without a quick trip down the snack aisle. You HAVE to try the new avocado-ranch-buffalo-ginger-wasabi-Salisbury-steak chips. OR you ONLY eat “healthy” snacks. You always buy them from Whole Foods and it's just crackers made of seeds and twigs and you only dip them in cashew butter that was hand harvested by monkeys in the Amazon ;-0
Whether you are a healthy snacker or a not so healthy snacker I know how appealing snack foods can be.
I know it well.
As a matter of fact, I have taught a class titled, “Snack Rehab” to thousands of people. I have heard it all, all of the reasons we snack, all of the reasons we maybe shouldn't, and I have definitely heard all of the quick, “convenient” snacks we long for. We reach for. Often. Too often.
Most of all, I have heard the questions. Tons and tons of questions. Should I snack? When should I snack? What size snack should I have? and…
If pop chips aren't good for me then what are some healthy snack ideas?
My snack philosophy is pretty simple, stay away from the packaged processed snacks and reach for whole food, real food snacks. Don't be afraid to eat a mini-meal as a snack, leftovers from dinner, or 1/2 a smoothie. Real food.
Eat snacks sitting down, ideally away from your desk, and definitely not while walking down the street or in your car. Chew your food. Be mindful. Take your time.
Overall the snack culture in our country encourages mindless, quick, “convenient” snacks. I think we have been convinced that snacking is necessary, that stopping by the vending machine at 3pm for a candy bar is just a natural part of the day.
I reject that sentiment 🙂
I think we can do better. I KNOW we can do better!
So, I created a resource to do just that.
