Have you ever been in a smoothie rut?
For the past few weeks I have suffered from both a smoothie rut AND a touch of writers block, oh the horror!!
Honestly, I’ve been a bit bluesy. Maybe it’s the desperate desire for some spring time action or maybe I am just blue. (insert tiny violin here)
Whenever I feel down in the dumps I make an active choice to do more things I love, seek out extra joy, if you will. Maybe I will get tickets to a Broadway show, book a trip, or take a new class to lift my spirits. If none of those joyful options are financially feasible for me I have tried reading an extra chapter in an inspiring book, attempting a meditation, trying a new recipe, you get the idea.
Well, geez louise, nothing has been working! I took an incredible manifestaion yoga class with Jennifer Pastiloff last week, that totally lifted my spirits for a few hours, but the next day I was dragging my feet again!
I booked a trip to Russia, yes you read that right, I am traveling to Russia next week!! Woohoo, let the joy bells ring right? Well… in the past, typically, an upcoming travel adventure would keep me highly spirited (annoyingly so, major grins all the time, planning every detail of my trip down to what I will wear each and every day. I’m a travel nerd.)
Nope, not this time… still dragging around my huff and puff blanket with a pout on my face, even with a fresh Russian visa stamp in my passport! What’s wrong with me, I thought!
Then, oh… it was divine intervention my friends, then I decided to travel back to my college to participate in a celebration of 20 years of dance this past weekend. It was a day packed full of master classes taught by my college dance professors, a concert, and a dinner to honor my mentor and one of the greatest influences in my life, Karen Dearborn, the head of the dance department at my Alma Mater, Muhlenberg College.
The second I stepped back on the old stage that was home to me for 4 years, everything lifted.
Everything changed. I started to move my body in ways I hadn’t attempted in 10 years! Holy shit I sucked guys, seriously I sucked, but the strangest thing, I didn’t care! I had the biggest smile on my face the whole time. I mean, “who’s the crazy old chick in the back” kind of smile. It was bliss. It was joy. I was back.
Gosh, how could I have let something that joyfully filled my life for 3o years just disappear? (I’m talking about dancing) It was a crazy, crazy revelation.
Then today, while walking Ms. Penelope I could not stop moving my feet. I mean, I was literally dancing in the streets. I was like Kevin Bacon in Footloose. I was a bonafide crazy old chick on the loose. I loved every minute of it. I felt alive.
So I made a silly little video while I was out there, because I felt so inclined and I honestly didn’t care if I looked coo-koo-cachoo I was joyful!
What does all of this crazy talk and crazy dance have to do with a damn green smoothie you must be wondering? Well, wouldn’t you know it, I made myself this incredible concoction, A Strawberry Whopper, on Saturday morning as I was driving to the reunion. (remember a whopper candy? or a malted milk ball? That’s what this tastes like but with strawberry… kind of like a chocolate malt ball covered strawberry)
Now, who’s to say if it was the smoothie that started the whole joy avalanche. I mean…I don’t know… stranger things have happened? No?
Regardless, as I was sipping this puppy on Saturday morning and eagerly anticipating putting on my ballet shoes
I kept saying, “mmm… Oh god, this is good.” So I made it again this morning, as a test. Delicious bomb! And you already heard what happened after I drank it, Dance Bomb!
WARNING: The Strawberry Whopper may cause random acts of dance, joy avalanches, and other inexplicable natural disasters.
Thanks for listening to my rant, and go ahead and try this smoothie… BUT please let me know if it causes dancing feet.. ’cause if so I may have to bottle it.
- 1 cup of frozen strawberries
- 2 handfuls of organic baby spinach
- 2 tablespoons of raw cacao powder or cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon of raw coconut butter
- 1 tablespoon of ground maca
- 1½ cups of coconut water
- 2 scoops of SP Complete
- my favorite protein powder
- ½ scoop of tera's whey chocolate protein powder
- Add all ingredients to a high speed blender and whirl until perfection is reached. Then sip and savor. The end.
