There are many things I absolutely LOVE about summer, long lazy days, fresh produce galore, tons of outdoor play time, and just that general sense that frolicking and fun is right around the corner.
Summer also has another side.
Overbooked social calendars, millions of opportunities to overindulge, many trips to the ice cream store, a handful of chips at every BBQ and picnic, a few too many beers – a few too many times, potato salad (my Achilles’ heel), burgers, hot dogs, bloating, and dehydration.
So with the official kick off of summer underway what can you do to make sure you feel confident and set up to have a summer without cravings, bingeing, junk food overdosing, over drinking, and ultimately weight gain?
Try these four tips on for size:
Make a Plan
I know that sounds silly and boring, but if you are just flailing about this summer jumping into every social situation that comes your way without a solid plan in place you are setting yourself up for disaster. How do you want to FEEL this summer? What choices will support those feelings. Begin there. If you think that having a social engagement every weekend will support your goals, well then ok, go for it. If not, readjust. Schedule in some time with friends that like active dates; biking, hiking, swimming, boating, and work to strike a balance between fun and healthy pursuits.
Know when it’s time to reel it in
If June 15th rolls around and you’ve already been to 10 barbecue’s and had after work cocktails with friends too many times to count maybe it’s time to reel it in. Check in with yourself, I do it every single morning. How am I feeling, what can I do today to support my goals. You may have to have a sit down with yourself mid week, “Hey, me, how about a yoga class tonight rather than a beer, K?”
Start your day right
This is a secret weapon of mine that I rely on nearly every morning in the summer and other times of the year. I’ve shared my love of green smoothies, but every one of my smoothies contains this wonder powder. It’s the cornerstone product of my 21 day reset program but is also a fantastic way to get a ton of nutrients into your system first thing in the morning.
Don’t be afraid to reach out for support. If you know that summer is a tough time for you and you typically end up sabotaging your health, ask for help.
I love supporting women through the summer months so they feel confident in their skin and solid in their conviction to eat better and feel fantastic. If you are ready to put down the potato chips and walk the path of health and happiness I have a few slots open on my calendar for new summer clients. Reach out to me here to schedule a complimentary 20 minute intro call. (all slots have been filled click here to get on my wait list)
